MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

All the Staff at Hobart Music Centre want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! If you've been a customer of ours this year we'd just like to thank you for choosing us to supply you with your music gear :) We hope that 2012 brings you closer to fulfilling your music dream and that we can continue to be a part of it.

Speaking of music dreams, young, local drummer Chris Lawson has made it into the finals of the Mapex Drummer of Tomorrow competition. Chris is a fantastic drummer and it's great to see him get recognised like this. Please take a few seconds out of your day to vote for him HERE. It'll only take a second and it could see Chris win a trip to Germany! Cheers!

Keep making music

Hey All! Christmas is really starting to ramp up! so much happening in the store to report on!! I don't know where to start. Well... we've had two drum clinics within a month of each other. The first one was with Dean Butterworth from Good Charlotte, The Used, Ben Harper, Missy Higgins, that spin off TV show with the girl from Seinfeld... the list just goes on!! It was AMAZING having Dean in Hobart to talk to some of our un and coming durmmers. Dean is a super nice bloke and I think everyone who came was challenged to better themselves as a musician. We would like to say a massive thank you to Tama Drums Australia for helping us get Dean down here. Secondly, we had Shane O'Brien from Confession and Jack The Stripper down for Mapex. It was another great night. It was great to hear what Shane and to say and great to see him get out from behind the kit and teach some younger players how to warm up! Part of what we want to do here at Hobart Music Centre is to empower young musicians so having big names like Dean and Shane is really exciting for us and we would like to thank everyone who has supported these nights by showing up. They more support we get, the better these clinics will be! Right, I'd better get back to it... soooooo much to do!!! (Click on the pics below to blow them up) - Harry

It's chaos in the shop today as we get ready for tomorrow. Thanks to Mark Bass, DV Mark and Mark Acoustic we've got some of Hobart's best playing tomorrow in the store! We'll have Alma Da Vida and Ben Wells and the Middle Names as well as solo bass performances from Nigel Hope and Carlos Pashev happening throughout the day. It's going to be super rad, click here for all the details but I've got to run off now because there is SO much to do!

Ok... So I don't expect I'll be updating this every day, however, when I start something new I have all these ideas I just have to get out on the page. I was talking yesterday with the rep from Roland about the GR55 guitar synth. It's so mad! If you want to play flute or piano or violin but you only ever could be bothered with guitar lessons THIS IS FOR YOU! Ha Ha! I was up at the launch a little while ago and I took this video on my Iphone. Now I don't want this 'blog' to be all about selling stuff and crap like that but this thing has two layers of synths and a GT10 built into it and it's only $1049- inc the pickup! GT10s by themselves until recently were $1299!! I really think this will change how people think about guitar synths. They used to be all over $2000 which just puts them in the 'it would be nice but it will never happen' basket for more guitarist. Now they are more attainable than ever and the stuff you can do with them is just off the show! The only problem (this is what I was discussing with the rep yesterday) is that one tiny little part used for them comes from near Fukushima in Japan... yep... that place that got devastated last year. This means they are like hens teeth all over the world right now. However, if you are interested i've got a couple on backorder already and if you give me a call on (03) 62315578 I'll put your name next to one.

Today I got into work really really early and decided I would start a blog about what is happening in the shop. Thought I'd start by taking about the Mapex & Ricky Evensand Clinic we had the other night. It was RAD! we had about 35 people turn out to see Ricky rip it up and I don't think anyone was disappointed. Ricky did some really cool things with a bass drum pedal attached to a cowbell as well as playing a few tracks from the various bands he's been involved with over the years. Also, he's a really humble guy. He was really happy to hang around and talk drums with the locals which made the night even better. I really hope we can get him back next year. We recorded the night and I'll be posting some tracks up here over the next few weeks (when we've got around to editing it). Here is a clip of Chris Lawson who is a local 17 year old drummer doing a little solo. We just used a Rode VideoMic Pro for the audio on this one because Tony had shut down the system already. It was just a 'Hey Chris, jump up and do a solo' at the end of the night. Still, I think it's pretty good - H
